On the Myths of Jesus, Atlantis, and American Democracy

A significant majority of Americans are woefully ignorant of Ancient (World) History, beyond, say, a smattering of encyclopedic facts about the Romans, Greeks, and perhaps, the Egyptians. (Have YOU ever heard of the Hittites, Akkadians, Sumerians, the Biblical Amorites (Giant Men of Amurru, or the Biblical Rephaim, Anakim), Assyrians, Babylonians, Carians, Chaldeans?) Let's face it - most people haven't... Truth be told, there is actually MORE evidence - actual, historical evidence for an ancient maritime culture, most often referred to as "Atlantis" (not so much as ONE physical location, but as an "Atlantean League" of ancient maritime tribes or nations, who shared a rather common culture, which they spread around the world, via Atlantic and Pacific crossings known to have occurred as recently as 1,100 BC, in the case of the Phoenicians and Egyptians (read Harvard Professor Barry Fell's America BC: Ancient Settlers in the New World, but crossings for which, evidence suggests a much earlier date, corresponding with the great pre-Phoenician maritime cultures of the Hitto-Sumerians, or Akkado-Sumerians, and their Empire, circa 4,000 to 3,500 BC (read L.A. Waddell's The Phoenician Origin of the Britons, Scots, and Anglo-Saxons) - indeed, there is much more evidence for "Atlantis", than there is for anyone named Jesus, crucified.

In point of fact, the great Jewish historian Flavius Josephus, who chronicalled Jewish History during the time period in which Jesus is said to have lived, mentions some 4 or 5 individuals named "Jesus", NONE OF WHOM WERE CRUCIFIED. Of course, crucifixion was a common form of capital punishment used by the Romans. Oddly, however, as popular as the story of Jesus had become, and as widespread as belief in Jesus was, in the decades and centuries after he was said to have lived, ministered and handed over to the Roman occupiers of Judea for crucifixion - how is it possible that the historical records of that era in both Rome and Judea are COMPLETELY SILENT on anyone crucified, named Jesus? The implication is clear: The Roman Catholic Church "Fathers" fabricated the story - using, as they did, bits and pieces from the Ancient "Mystery" Religions - mythical stories of an assortment of ancient god-men, most notably Horus, Mithra, Tammuz, and Dionysus, not to mention the ancient Mother Goddess, who gave birth to the World Redeemer, whose name was Maya, and Isis, among others (read Jesus and the Lost Goddess, by Timothy Freke and Peter Gandy, as well as The Templar Revelation by Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince, the book upon which The Da Vinci Code is based).

Why did Roman Emperor Constantine select Christianity to become the official, state-sanctioned religion of the Roman Empire? Primarily, as history records, because it was an emerging mythos or belief which was seriously gaining in popularity in Rome, as well as posing a serious threat to the political status-quo, or stability, of Rome, and by extension, to the already crumbling, far-flung Roman Empire. He chose it, to state-mandate a particular religious doctrine - one doctrine - to impose top-down authority, to solidify and centralize clerical and imperial power - to get everyone "on the same page", so to speak, by DECREASING the freedom and plurality and tolerance of disparate voices and beliefs within Rome, and the Empire, as well as deflate the threat posed by the Christians, who were increasingly defiant of Roman Imperial power (read Father Malachai Martin's book: The Decline and Fall of the Roman Church, and Tony Bushby's book: The Crucifixion of Truth). This is, by the way, exactly the type of totalitarianism which the Extremist Fundamentalist Islamic-Clerics are attempting to achieve in many places in the Middle East, most notably in Afghanistan and Iraq, by imposing one, state-sanctioned religious autocracy.

What were the historical consequences of Emperor Constantine's decision? Answer: The Dark Ages, and the Inquisition.

Rome, before Constantine and the Roman Catholic Church, was a place of relative freedom in matters of religious belief, just as America supposedly is, today. The difference today, is that individual Americans have civil liberties protected by the U.S. Constitution. If we allow, say, the religious right-wing in America, to erode constitutional protection of those civil liberties, in pursuit of ever-increasing corporate greed, at the expense of real, social program reform, such as in the areas of Social Security, Health Care coverage, Income Taxation, and Alternative Sources of Energy - not to mention the President's Surveillance of American Citizens (under the guise of protection from Terrorists) - do we, as 21st Century Americans, run the SAME RISK, of entering another DARK AGE period in history, or worse - another state-sanctioned INQUISTION? (Read George Orwell's book: 1984 - a book particularly relevant to our electronic age).

Indeed, the serious study of Ancient History, provides an education in elitist, self-serving privately-owned and publically-funded corporate and political greed, corruption and warfare, religious intolerance, and media deception. (Read John Rushing's book: Adventure Capital, a book of "fiction" admittedly based upon many years of collected facts about corruption in Washington, DC.)

Or, indeed, just the study of the 20th Century. In the movie, The Devil's Advocate, starring Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves, Al Pacino plays the role of Satan, himself, alive and well in the 20th Century, who declares in effect, that he OWNED the 20th Century. Indeed, the Holy Book, itself, tells us, that Satan offered Jesus all the empires of the world, if Jesus would just bow down before him. A striking Biblical clue, to who is really in charge - in THIS world, at least.
